  • Imaging results: The imaging revealed deep fractures in the Juan de Fuca plate, including one where the descending oceanic slab has dropped approximately 3.1 miles (5 kilometers).
  • Earthquake records: Analysis of earthquake data supported the seismic images. Along a 47-mile (75-kilometer) tear, some areas show continued seismic activity, while others are eerily quiet. This "missing seismicity" indicates that sections of the plate have already fully detached.
the Cascadia subduction zone, located off the Pacific Northwest coast, actively tearing itself apart. Rather than shutting down abruptly in a single event, the oceanic plate is undergoing a gradual, episodic collapse that is creating smaller microplates. This slow-motion unraveling was documented in a study published in Science Advances in September 2025. How scientists made the discovery
The breakthrough discovery was made possible by the 2021 Cascadia Seismic Imaging Experiment (CASIE21), which was funded by the National Science Foundation.

People also askWhat is the Amtrak 750 mile rule?AI Overview+7The Amtrak 750-mile rule, part of the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act of 2008 (PRIIA), requires that short-distance Amtrak routes (less than 750 miles) receive partial funding from the states they serve, while long-distance routes (over 750 miles) are funded entirely by the federal government. This rule makes it difficult for states to establish or expand shorter routes, as they would need to contribute operating costs, and it prioritizes federal funding for long-distance services. ( That's funny they don't switch drivers and they speed, and funny how they were here in Jackson Mississippi 8 hours early today? so now I guess I'll call 911 for a ambulance to st Francis hospital in Monroe Louisiana for my heart 💜❤️. since no one came to pick me up. funny huh.
